Recruit Volunteers

It’s not just volunteering. It’s building lasting, meaningful, and mutually beneficial connections to our communities.

One Day Partnership

Service Day

Our office plans one-time service events to allow students, staff and faculty to explore the community and learn about different nonprofits. NU Service Day is typically held during the Fall Semester (October). We also work with groups and departments to help plan their one-time service events. A Week or Long Weekend Partnership

Alternative Spring Break

The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program is a week-long immersive service and learning experience. Participants engage in meaningful action, reflection, and education while learning about a critical social issue in their host community or region. Each year, we run 15+ Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trips. The Community Service and Civic Engagement team have traveled to Arizona, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.

Alternative Weekends

The Alternative Weekends program is a shorter version of the Alternative Spring Breaks program. It provides a long-weekend experience rather than a week-long experience.

Semester Long Partnership

Community Volunteers Program (CVP)

CVP enables students, faculty, and staff, in teams of 3-10 people, to engage in ongoing service projects with local nonprofit organizations for between 2 to 4 hours per week over the course of a semester.

Year Long Partnership

Alliance of Civically Engaged Students (ACES)

The NU|ACES program recruits 80 first-year students and 20 upper-class team leaders who commit to weekly volunteering at a local nonprofit organization through the entire academic year.

AmeriCorps Programs

AmeriCorps Programs is a set of federally funded national service programs that allow young people to support their local communities by contributing their time and energy to respond to community needs. The Center of Community Service and Civic Engagement is fortunate to house two nationally recognized Ameri-Corps Programs.

Jumpstart

Jumpstart is a national early literacy organization that focuses on developing language, literacy, socio-emotional learning of preschool-aged children for under-resourced backgrounds. This mission of JumpStart is to ensure that every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.

Massachusetts Promise Fellowship (MPF)

The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship at Northeastern is an AmeriCorps program that places 40 full-time Fellows at non-profits, city agencies, and schools across the Commonwealth each year. Fellows lead out-of-schools time programs for youth focused mentoring, college and career readiness, and academic enrichment.

Service-Learning

We often work closely with the Community-Engaged Teaching and Research (CETR) team at NU to provide support for our partners. CETR provides partner organizations the opportunity to collaborate with a service-learning course or partner on a community-engaged research project.  In order to collect community-identified goals, research questions, and volunteer requests for each semester, the CETR team runs a Request for Partnerships process, which you can learn more about here
